The Alice in Wonderland Concert


Most kids in Aitken Creek Primary School did the Alice in Wonderland concert on Thursday at 4:30. All the kids did different songs and dances.


We went into the gym and we did a warm up. We were doing stretches and doing dance moves. We were jogging on the spot. Mrs Greco put on the song Candy and everyone danced and exercised and sang along.

We went to the Grade 2 Learning Neighbourhood and we watched the concert on the TV by Skyping. We felt pumped, nervous and excited at the same time because we were about to do our performance with lots of parents and children watching us.

We walked in our three lines to the gym and we excitedly performed All in the Golden Afternoon. Some people were a bit shy and nerve-wracked and even though we made mistakes no one noticed. Our performance was jaw-dropping and our parents were so proud. It went very well.


Some people were proud of themselves because they didn’t get nervous. Some people were a bit nervous because there was a lot of parents and students but it all went well.

Space Cow: Our Orientation Ideas

We learnt how to write orientations. We all used the idea “Space Cow”… see how different and incredible our writing is! You are welcome to use them in your own writing.

Delicious Healthy Pizzas


On Wednesday the 6th of August we made pizzas with our buddies. We made pizzas at school so we could get healthy and fit. We made them for CBL because we are looking for power and if we make our bodies stronger that is power.

 We spread tomato paste on our bread. We used soft pita bread to use for the base.

Our toppings were:

  • cheese
  • corn
  • pineapple
  • broccoli
  • red capsicum
  • green capsicum
  • mushroom

Everyone tried new things on their own pizza. Josh tried mushroom for the first time but he didn’t like it! It was very brave.

We put it in the oven to make our pizzas cook and taste yum. The bread started to become crispy and became burning hot. If anyone had cheese it melted into stringy cheese.

We then started to munch them. Some people liked their pizzas and some people didn’t.



Fantastic Fractions


2B have been learning about fantastic fractions!

Day 1: We were cutting equal and not equal (unequal) shapes.

Day 2: We cut paper shapes of food in halves, quarters, eighths and sixteenths. They were equal. We used picnic mats and the paper shapes and we drew and folded them to become food.

We put them on the picnic mats so that it could look like a real picnic. We made pizza, pies, cakes, doughnuts and watermelon.

We had a joyful time designing the food.

CBL Solution


This term in grade 2 we have been learning about Systems in CBL and answering the question “How does the earth work?”. We have investigated the following questions:

-What is a system?

-How do systems work?

-How does the earth support life?

-How do the changes in a system affect us?

-What would happen if a system stopped working?

We worked on a solution to the challenge

“Improve the way a community uses natural resources”.

We decided to write a song to tell people about how they could use Earth’s natural resources better.

We brainstormed, wrote, recorded and sung the song ourselves. We hope you enjoy it!

The Solar System

In 2B we have been busy learning about The Solar System because about CBL big idea is Systems.

So far we have learnt about how the Earth, Moon and Sun work together in the Solar System. We have learnt:

  • How the earth spins around the sun to make the seasons and one whole year
  • How the moon orbits around the earth
  • How the earth spins in a circle to make day and night

We have also learnt about how the solar system affects us with its changes by creating seasons. We get cold weather and hot weather and cool weather. Some places get snow. In Spring some people get hayfever, in Summer days get longer and daylight savings begins. In Winter we wear thick clothes to keep us warm and in Summer we wear thin clothes to keep us cool.

We did an experiment to learn about the Solar System and how it works. We shone a torch on the earth to make sunlight and showed the movement of the earth and moon around the sun. We make our own mini solar systems with paper plates.



Today we read a story called ANZAC Biscuits. It was about a girl called Rachel who loved her dad and mum. Her dad was an ANZAC soldier. Rachel made ANZAC biscuits for him made from treacle, flour and oats.

After reading the story we discussed who the ANZACs were and why they are important.

We created a shape poem that included words about ANZACs.

Ride to School Day

On Friday the 21st of March, most of the school walked or rode to school to get fit.


First, we rode or walked to school. It felt exciting to ride to school instead of driving. Some people walked or rode to school with their friend or neighbours. We were trying to get fit so we can be healthy. On the way Rian saw two birds fighting. One bird slapped the other on with its wing on the side of its head. When some of us got to the front of the classroom door, we saw friends already there.


Next, we went to Fitman for exercising. Fitman is fit and he was pure muscle. His arms and legs were strong because he exercises so much.  We were dancing but while we were dancing we were exercising. We were jumping up and down and felt like we were blasting with excitement. Fitman is amazing because he is a superhero that taught us how to be fit and how to Activate!


Later, we had lunch and Hannah gave us fruit and Jacinta and Mrs Fintelman gave out Aussie Animal cards. We got them because we rode to school. They were prizes.


It was an enjoyable day because everybody got fit and healthy. It was a busy day but it was fun. It was fantastic.
